Notes |
Christopher Greenup (1750-1818) served as the third governor of Kentucky (1804-1808) Greenup became governor of Kentucky after the purchase of the Louisiana Territory, which provided Kentucky access to the Mississippi River and the port of New Orleans. He wrestled with ongoing disputes over land titles. During Greenup's administration, state government got more complicated as Kentucky got involved in major business developments such as the Ohio Canal Company (1804). The artist, William T. Hunleigh (1848-1916), was a noted landscape artist; several portraits and landscapes are found in the collection. |
