Description |
This is a circular celluloid process political button for the Presidential campaign of Ellen McCormack in 1976 and 1980. The button has a white background with a black and white photo of McCormack in the center, red lettering around the top that reads "Ellen McCormack" and blue lettering between two blue stars around the bottom that reads "for President". There is blue lettering on the curled under edge that reads "Dalo Button & Emblem Co. NYC 10010" followed by an unreadable union printer's label. A safety pin closure attached to the back of the button. |

Ellen Cullen McCormack (September 15, 1926 - March 27, 2011) was a candidate for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination in 1976. McCormack generally identified herself as a "housewife" during the campaign. She ran on an exclusively pro-life platform. She won 238,000 votes in 18 Democratic primaries, and 22 delegate votes at the Democratic National Convention. In 1980 she ran again as the Right to Life Party candidate, qualifying for the ballot in Kentucky, New Jersey and New York and receiving 32,327 votes. |
