Description |
This pitcher belonged to the first governor of Kentucky, Isaac Shelby. The front of the pitcher is monogrammed with decorative old script style and features the initials "ISS," which stands for Isaac and Susannah Shelby. The vessel has a bombe shaped body below a tall collar with a reeded rim. The ribbed handle is square and curves towards the body. The bottom of the pitcher is stamped, "A. BLANCHARD" There is an eagle stamped to the left, to the right, and below Blanchard's name. |

Governor Isaac Shelby served as governor from 1792-1796 and 1812-1816. This coin silver pitcher was manufactured between 1810 and 1826 by Asa Blanchard. By 1807, Blanchard established himself as a prominent silversmith in Lexington, Kentucky. |
