Description |
This is an army officer's sword belt. It is made of dark brown leather, and is machine-stitched. There is a large brass belt buckle, featuring the image of an eagle, and a shield with stars and stripes, which is surrounded by stars and a laurel wreath. A banner over the eagle reads: "E PLURIBUS UNIM." The belt buckle has a slide on one side, through which one end of the belt has been slipped. This end of the belt has a severe brass hook towards the right and a series of 8 sizing holes for adjustment on the left. The exterior back of the belt has two small strips of leather that have been machine-stitched onto the waist belt, which are connected by a square brass ring. A sword hanging strap (vertical) is located on the other end of the belt, with two metal brass rings (one on either end) and an attached brass hook. There is also brass hardware at this end of the belt strap, where the belt buckle connects to it. Three thick chunks of light brown leather were added at a later date, and are attached via tan tacks that have been hammered or melted down on the opposite side. |
