Description |
This Salvation Army bonnet is a black or navy blue straw hat with a fabric covered brim. The fabric is sewn with five pleats on one side of the hat and four on the other. The black/navy blue fabric is accented with red ribbon on each side and a red ribbon across the front that reads "The Salvation Army" in white. Two ties of unequal legnth hang from the sides to tie the hat beneath the chin. The lining is also of black cotton. |
Notes |
This was the uniform bonnet issued to Virginia Garland when she became a Salvation Army Officer in the early 1950s. The bonnet was worn with both the first and second uniform styles (2009.6.6). In 2005, Virginia was awarded the 50 year participation award by the Salvation Army and continues to be active in the organization. |
