Description |
The Bible belonged to Hugh Haynie. It is a black leather bound Bible. The edges of the pages are gilded and there is a purple cotton ribbon for a bookmark. There are also three sheets of scrap paper with notations about verses for bookmarks. It is inscribed on blank page before the title page. The front cover and spine are embossed. |

Hugh Smith Haynie was born February 6, 1927 in Reedville, VA. Haynie served in the US Coast Guard and following WWII attended the College of William and Mary. Following college, Haynie began his career as a cartoonist in Richmond, VA in 1953. Haynie then moved to Greensboro, NC and Atlanta, GA before he was hired by Barry Bingham of the Louisville Courier-Journal in 1958. Haynie worked for the Courier-Journal until his retirement on October 1, 1995. Hugh Haynie passed away in 1999. |
