Description |
This ceramic decanter is made in the likeness of a coal miner. It was one of five in a set. The container has a square base in white with "Coal Miner" on the front. The miner is kneeling with his left knee down and his right knee up. He is wearing a black hard hat with a light on the front, a red shirt, blue overalls, a blue jacket and brown boots. He has a shovel in his left hand and a piece of coal in his right. There is a lunch pail on his right. There is a wall of pieces of coal behind him. The container opens at the miner's neck. On the bottom is stamped inside a black rectangle "Collectors Limited Edition COAL MINER 1977 Commonwealth Distillery Co. In Kentucky Hand-painted Porcelain Decanter." There is also a gold paper sticker on the bottom that says "CONTAINER MADE IN CHINA." |
Notes |
The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) donated this decanter along with several others in 2011. The PLCB tested one bottle from every new line or brand that came into Pennsylvania between 1930 and the1980s. The more interesting bottles were put on display in the PLCB offices. The decanters are representative of several distilleries throughout Kentucky. |
